A SMART rules poster for every computer and classroom
A SMART rules poster gives pupils a quick, memorable way to stay safe online. The SMART acronym is used by primary schools across the UK because it turns online safety into five easy steps that children can remember and repeat: Safe, Meet, Accept, Reliable and Tell.
- S – Safe: keep personal details such as your name, school and address private.
- M – Meet: never meet someone you only know online without a trusted adult.
- A – Accept: think before you open messages, files, links or friend requests.
- R – Reliable: check whether what you see online is true.
- T – Tell: talk to a trusted adult if anything makes you feel worried.
Four SMART rules poster designs
Choose a design from the Design menu above and the main image switches to show it. All four use our own wording and artwork.
Design 1 – “Be SMART Online”
A clear classroom guide with each letter in its own coloured block and the full rule beside it. Ideal for KS2 classrooms and ICT suites.
Design 2 – “Are You a SMART Surfer?”
Five children ride a giant wave on surfboards that spell SMART, with the message surf the web safely. Bright and fun for KS1 and KS2.
Design 3 – “Think SMART”
A glowing circuit-board light bulb on a dark background with the five SMART words in neon. A sleek choice for upper KS2 and secondary pupils.
Design 4 – “We Are SMART Online!”
Five friendly monsters hold up the SMART letters, with the reminder: if you are unsure, tell a grown-up. Perfect for EYFS and KS1.

How to use SMART rules posters in school
Teach one letter at a time across a half term, using the poster as the focus for computing or PSHE lessons. Ask pupils to act out each rule or give an example, then add their ideas around the poster on your display board. Keep a poster beside every device area so staff can refer to it the moment an issue comes up.
Revisit the SMART rules each February for Safer Internet Day and share them with parents. Pair this range with our e-safety poster and online safety poster for kids for younger pupils, or our internet safety poster for older ones.

Where to display SMART rules posters
- ICT suites and computer rooms
- Beside laptops, tablet trolleys and charging points
- KS1 and KS2 classrooms and reading corners
- Libraries and homework clubs
- Halls, for Safer Internet Day assemblies
Because every design shares the same sizes and prices, it is easy to order a matching set, for example Design 4 for infant classrooms and Design 1 for juniors, so the whole school learns the same five rules.
