Why Black History Month matters

Black History Month gives everyone a chance to learn about the people, events and contributions that are too often left out of the story. Seeing those stories celebrated on the walls helps pupils and staff feel represented and valued, encourages curiosity and respect, and supports schools in building an inclusive curriculum where every pupil can see themselves.

How to use Black History Month posters

Launch your display at the start of October with an assembly or team briefing, then build around the poster with pupils’ own work, such as research on inspiring people, family histories or local stories. In primary schools, use Design 3 as the focus of a reading display; in secondary schools, Design 2 can open discussions in history, English and PSHE lessons.
